Funding Needed to Continue Successful Program

Frankfort, KY—This morning at 10:00 a.m., Rep. Larry Clark, Rep. Jeff Donohue; Dr. Donna Hargens, Superintendent of JCPS; Dr. DeLena Alexander, Principal of the TAPP program; and approximately 30 of TAPP’s best students will be in Frankfort to speak to the House Budget Committee to convince lawmakers to support continued funding for their program. TAPP first received funding in 2008 and has received about $250,000 each year.

The mission of the Georgia Chaffee Teenage Parent Program (TAPP) is to prevent school dropout associated with teen pregnancy by ensuring that all pregnant and parenting students are engaged in tasks that promote higher levels of academic achievement, intellectual development, emotional stability, physical well being and self sufficiency.

“In 2008, 2010 and again in 2012 we were able to secure funding for this very important program,” says Larry Clark. “Working with the TAPP students has been one of the most humbling and yet rewarding experiences I have had in the legislature. The support these young ladies receive is changing their lives and impacting two generations.”

The Teenage Parent Program has been recognized as The Most Outstanding Intervention Program in the country by the National Organization of Adolescent Pregnancy and Parenting for its unparalleled success and commitment to teen mothers and their children.

Clark represents the 46th District in Louisville and has served in that position since 1984 and he maintains a 100% voting record.  He has served as House Speaker Pro Tem since 1993. Clark has sponsored legislation for job creation, economic development and education, and he has been a supporter of seniors and veterans. For more information, visit www.KeepLarryClark.com.
